As I opened the compost bin today I noticed about fifty very young spiders on the outside of the lid, no sign of parents, don't know much about spiders. These were about one millimetre across, looked to be yellow with a black or dark spot in the middle of their body. I slowly put the lid down and watched them for a few minutes. They all reassembled just under the lid. which is about two inches above the main bin Considering I detest spiders I thought these were cute. Max |

Hi Max, The spiders you had in your garden, are a species of Orb-web spider, the large ones which have a cross shaped mark on there backs, more often seen in the autumn when they have matured, the latin name is Araneus diadematus,so you can look it up in the future. Regards Steve |
