Kilnsea and Spurn NNR East Yorks - Sat 27 09 08
Given the sunny weather, I couldn't resist returning to Kilnsea and Spurn for a second Saturday's birding ...this time solo. I left Lincoln at 7.00am arriving at Kilnsea at 9.00am which meant I could spend 9 hours continuous birding until leaving at 6.00pm.
Highlights included:

Great Grey Shrike - at post 61 and also later at the Point
Red backed Shrike - seen on/off throughout the day at the 'Triangle'
(Pleased to get both Shrikes UTB by mid-morning).
Shorelark - on my second visit to the Chalk Bank Hide late afternoon - the incoming tide meant the 'regular' bird was showing well just in front of the hide.
Whinchat - 2
Stonechat - 4
-incl. both Chats almost side by side on the same stretch of wire fencing.
Garden Warbler(s) - spent most of the day feeding on Elderberries in the 'Crown and Anchor' car park
Blackcap -male/female
Willow Warbler
Goldcrest - several around the Kilnsea Churchyard area
Spotted Flycatcher - 3
Redwing - 2
Little Egret - 5 together in flight
Turnstones - 8
Grey Plover - 10
Sanderling - 50+
Ruff
Knot 1000+
Swallows - a number moving through
plus Barn Owl - along A15 en route home at 7.30pm.
Pleased to meet up again for a chat with Dean Nicholson at Kilnsea.

Regards

Freddy

Russell,
I see you made it to Kilnsea and Spurn on Sunday 28 September. Congratulations on your superb photos of the Great Grey Shrike and the Red-backed Shrike on Birdguides (Spurn website). I particularly liked your Great Grey Shrike with prey (a mouse).

Regards,

Freddy
