Been on a course near Durham for the past few days. Spent most of Saturday at the Durham Miners Gala - a fantastic spectacle until the alcohol took control
Managed to get some birding done in fantastic scenary
Visited Hamsterley Forest and spent some time on the moors where I caught up with Red Grouse & Dipper for the year
On the way home diverted to the new RSPB facilities at Saltholme Pools just south of Hartlepool.
The pools like everywhere else in July were quiet. Highlights were
swift swallow sand martin yellow wagtail common tern (hundreds) sandwich tern oystercatcher 1 ruff 1 common sandpiper little egret 6 grey heron c20
