Seemed to have run out of typing space Hauxley Nature Reserve, superb spot for birding with its 6 hides, former open cast coal workings, landscaped to produce lakes with mud areas and reed beds, and islands. Wigeon, Teal, Redshank, Oystercatcher, Snipe Curlew, Turnstone Greenshank, Green Sandpiper, Grey Plover, Godwits, and many others. On the shore opposite the Ponteland Hide, large concrete blocks makes sea watching an ideal spot, with all the rain we did not linger but managed Wheatear, many Eider and Scoter. Warning, do not expect a drink or anything at the visitor centre. Well worth the visit, again thanks to Hugh for his help. Regards Mike Surr
