Spent years telling my friend Andrew that Spurn was magic if you hit it right as I did some years ago. Well on Sunday was near enough magic for an old cynic like me. Four lifers for my buddy and even one for me. So it encouraged me to re-visit but what a difference a few days can make. Still yellow-browed warblers about but not in in the abundance of last Sunday. I actually caught up with the a sleepy Jack Snipe we missed on Sunday. It reminded me of myself in front of the TV on a Saturday night with a glass of red nearby. Lasts all night as I usually dozing. A firecrest was very nice among all the goldcrests. Brent Geese on Beacon Ponds were a harbinger of winter on a glorious Autumns day. Yes; Spurn is magic but some days are slightly better than others - especially when your stomach is growling and you spend what seems like an eternity in traffic jams in Hull and on the approaches to the Humber Bridge as I am sure John Farmer will agree. Lets have the wind in the right direction and off I would go again.

Had my third trip of the Autumn this time with Ben Ward. Most definitely my last unless something outstanding turns up. Cannot stand the traffic jams on Clive Sullivan way
It seems that the good birds of the day before had done a runner
Nevertheless I believe it was a good day. Highlights noted included
yellow-browed warbler 2
common redstart 1
stonechat 1
wheatear 1
lesser redpoll 2
song thrush
buzzard 1
sparrowhawk 1
kestrel
golden plover c500
grey plover
curlew
greenshank
redshank
lapwing
dunlin
redwing 3
song thrush
gannet 5
goldcrest c50
willow warbler 1
chiffchaff c12
little egret
pintail
We didn't see the barred warbler at Sammy's Point or the firecrest close to the Canal Scrape which seem to be the star birds of the day
