I decided to check out, with my son Alex, the frequent 'open' reports of Nightjar on the Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers regularly updated website (Sightings), at the Budby Pumping Station near Ollerton, NOTTS.
We were on site by 8.50pm and stayed until the final glimmering at 11.15pm, aided by some welcome moonlight. It was a reasonably warm evening and the area is virtually mosquito free. :D
The first male started churring at 9.35pm, followed by 2 others in due course. The visit certainly had that 'Nightjar atmosphere' which is so special. There were 4 local birders there with us.
Also Woodcock roding.

Regards,

Freddy
