Post subject:  My Photo from the Hebrides

Hi
I have put two photo's in the "Birds for Discussion" section of the Album. They are not very good quality as I was very lucky to get a photo at all. It was sitting on a post by the side of the road and the car disturbed it and it flew off and perched on another post about 50 yards away. Seconds later it flew off and disapeared down a gully. The Bird was very large with a wingspan that I estimated as 5 to 6 feet. Can anyone help me identify it please?
Malcolm.

Hi Malcolm,

It looks like a Common Buzzard to me. Golden Eagles are much larger, more powerful looking birds and always show golden brown on the crown and nape.

It would also be very unusual to get close enough to photograph a Golden Eagle sat on a post like this.
