Been on a course near Durham for the past few days. Spent most of Saturday at the Durham Miners Gala - a fantastic spectacle until the alcohol took control

Managed to get some birding done in fantastic scenary

Visited Hamsterley Forest and spent some time on the moors where I caught up with Red Grouse & Dipper for the year

On the way home diverted to the new RSPB facilities at Saltholme Pools just south of Hartlepool.

The pools like everywhere else in July were quiet. Highlights were

swift
swallow
sand martin
yellow wagtail
common tern (hundreds)
sandwich tern
oystercatcher 1
ruff 1
common sandpiper
little egret 6
grey heron c20
