David,

A. If you can get hold of OS Map 112 ( Scunthorpe and Gainsborough ), Gringley Carr Pumping Station is Map Ref. SE 727915. .....then see C below.

B. Otherwise, when visiting Gringley Carr, Richard Gunn and I approach Gringley -on-the-Hill along the A631 from Gainsborough. We take the 3rd signed road (just past the B1403 turning) into the village. Immediately turn sharp left and you will soon (via Wood Lane) be entering open country into the Carr. After c 1 Km along this narrow lane you come to a dead end at the Pumping Station.

C. Park at the Pumping Station. An old foot-bridge (not the lane as shown in some older OS Maps) takes you up onto the Canal Bank.
On Sat 20 Feb we saw the SE Owls and Hen Harrier (over the rough ground across the Canal) and Twite (in the Willows) from a vantage point on the Canal Bank some 300-400m to the left (WEST) of the Pumping Station. Wellingtons are advisable if this wet weather continues. The approach lane is also quite muddy.

Regards,

Freddy
