Langold Lake(Notts).........9 March...............11:45.

Adult Red-necked Grebe still showing well. Most confiding for a shy species, affording excellent close views.

( Thanks for reminding me about the RN Grebe, Richard. ) Having spent yesterday (my 77th birthday) at my daughter's house with the full family in Harlaxton (Grantham), including worshipping at the shrine of my new grandson (2 months), I decided to treat myself to a late birthday trip this afternoon to Langold Country Park,NOTTS, especially as the bird has been around a few weeks now and could depart any day. : just under 1 hour from BBH @ 36 miles.
The RN Grebe was showing very well at the end near the Car Park, including close to the E bank near GC Grebe for comparison. It entertained some 8 of us birders for c 30 minutes until it then swam away towards the further lake end. Otherwise, mainly Canada Geese, Coot, Tufted Duck and Mallard.
A cracking bird - let's hope we get one in LINCS 'ere long. (The last one I saw was also in NOTTS - Collingham 13 01 08 ).

Regards,

Freddy

NOTE : the Country Park gates close at 4pm - I left in time at 3.40!
