Ring necked Parakeet seen over Endcliffe Park in Sheffield. Possibly a post for Escaped birds category but I understand that a pair have nested in Sheffield before. Lets hope they don't spread in any numbers to Lincolnshire which is milder than S.Yorks! David |

The original introduction to the UK was from escaped pets , imported from Africa and South Asia. The first breeding record in the UK was only some 40 years ago (1969). They breed prolifically and the largest colony is in Esher, Surrey numbering ca 7000 birds. The present UK status is " increasing - probably in excess of 10,000 birds." Regards, Freddy |
