Bairds Sandpiper at Idle Valley (Lound), showing from Chainbridge NR Scrape.

Probably the same bird I found last night, however the sun was setting behind it so I couldn't see it properly. The wader did look and act unusual, as I have never seen a Bairds Sandpiper I wouldn't know it if i saw it. I thought at first glance it was a Stint but was having doubts last night whilst looking through the bird books. As I have seen Stints before I know that they tend to be very active whilst feeding, but this bird was just stood still for ages, when it moved and started feeding it still wasn't as active as a Stint.

A confirmed sighting of a Bairds Sandpiper was made today at 7:00AM in the exact same place I saw the wader last night. I presume it was the same bird. It was still present at 12:45PM today.

Well done Richard, at least your report of a possible stint got Mark Dawson there to check it out today. I think the last Baird's Sandpiper at Lound was in August 1998 when one, also an adult, stayed for a week from August 19th.

Current bird showing at about 250 yards this morning. Not really any mud that is closer to the viewing area that would allow it to be observed at closer range, but good 'scope views.

The Bairds of 1998 was in a pit that doesn't exist today. It was full of waders that day day. It was, if memory serves me right just on the other side of Chainbridge Lane, 20 yards or so from the viewpoint. The Pit now filled in with some form of trees filling it today. The whole of the area between the viewpoint and the wetland reserve was once full of pits. Today all filled in. Alas nothing stays the same
