Half-term break with family based in port of Amble. 26-30 Oct 2010 A very enjoyable break with great autumn colours. Nothing too amazing bird-wise and managed to miss out on any little auks or waxwings. Purple sandpipers present at both Amble and Craster harbours. Med gulls also in Amble harbour (one ringed). Red-throated divers frequent off Holy Island plus good range of waders near the causeway. Eiders everywhere off coast. Distant gannets still frequent. A few whooper swans noted at Cragside (National Trust). Red Kite over A1 on way up there and another over Fountains Abbey on way back down. Cheers Brian |
