Half-term break with family based in port of Amble.

A very enjoyable break with great autumn colours.
Nothing too amazing bird-wise and managed to miss out on any little auks or waxwings.

Purple sandpipers present at both Amble and Craster harbours. Med gulls also in Amble harbour (one ringed). Red-throated divers frequent off Holy Island plus good range of waders near the causeway. Eiders everywhere off coast. Distant gannets still frequent. A few whooper swans noted at Cragside (National Trust). Red Kite over A1 on way up there and another over Fountains Abbey on way back down.

Hi Brian,

My wife and myself stayed at Alnwick the same week as you had been away and had several decent birds which included two flocks of Waxwings at Alnwick castle of 6 and 14,a couple of Peregrines(Alnwick castle and Warkworth), 17 Whooper Swans(Budle Bay),Pink-footed Geese,3 Goosander(Warkworth),15 Red-breasted Merganser and Long-tailed Duck(Berwick-On-Tweed) and stacks of Eider.This coupled with the stunning scenery and historical buildings,made for a very enjoyable break.Oh,and i forgot to mention that Steve Backshall off Lost Land of the Tiger and Alexii Sayle both stayed in our hotel. .
