Lured by the prospects of Golden Oriel, White Stork and Common Crane I decided to travel down the hated A17 (when will they dual it) to Lakenheath. It was my first visit to this reserve. Enjoyed it even though I dipped out on some of my targets Highlights were
At least 25 hobbies in the air together (record count this year has been 61 together!) About a dozen Marsh Harriers displaying well 3 Common Crane Pair of Garganey One booming Bittern (apparently 7 present on the reserve) 2 Cuckoos No sign of the Oriel though a guy I was walking with thought he heard a brief call. Some people had seen it though Seemed to be to windy for Bearded Tit and Grasshopper Warbler
Also missed by a couple of hours the long staying Bluethroat at Welney on the way home
