Just had my annual few days in the north east based at Alnmouth.
As I know the coastal area well spent most of my time around Alnmouth. Plenty of warblers and two roseatte terns fishing in the estuary.
Wednesday had a trip to the Farnes for my fix of close up views of puffins, guillimot, razorbill, kittiwakes and of course the terns. A few gannets offshore and lots of eider, some with young. Stag rocks was very quiet. Called at Long Nanny on the way back for little terns at the ternery.
Monday and Thursday called in at the lovely reserve at Hauxley. Nothing special birdwise but saw my first walls of the year all two of them.
Butterflies seemed very sparse. Just the two walls, a few orange tips and green veined whites. Red admiral and copper were reported but only one or two.
