Had a week with the family up in Northumberland staying at Cresswell. Managed to get out a bit and caught the tale end of the Northerly winds from last week. Newbiggin by the sea: Beach: 6 Mediterrranean Gulls Church viewpoint: All in 1 hour Up to 10 Storm Petrels 1 Sooty Shearwater 50+ Manx Shearwaters 1 Great Skua 1 Fulmar 5+ Arctic Skuas Plus lots of Common Scoters,Kittiwakes,Gannets,Guillemot and Razor bills Cresswell Beach: Seen during the week 3 Arctic Skuas ( seen daily) 5 Roseate Terns ( two days only) 3 Velvet Scoters ( 1 day) 30+ Common Scoterts ( seen daily) 20+ Eider Ducks 2-3 Red-breasted Mergansers ( seen daily) 20+ Golden Plover ( 1 day) 30+ Oystercacthers ( seen daily) 20+ Redshank ( seen daily) 20+ Curlew ( seen daily) 30-40 Sandwich Terns ( seen daily) 10+ Arctic Terns ( seen daily) 10+ Common Terns ( seen daily) Plus Guillemots, Razorbills, Ringed Plovers, Sanderlings, Turnstone, Dunlin, BH Gulls, GBB Gulls & Herring Gulls ( all daily) Cresswell Ponds: 2 Avocet ( inc 1 juvenile the first to be bred in Northumberland according to locals) 1 Marsh Harrier 3 Bar-headed Geese 1 Little Gull 2 Yellow Wagtails 6+ Cormorant 6 Dunlin Plus an assortment of Gulls, Terns, Geese and ducks Chevington ponds: an assortment of Gulls, Terns, Geese and ducks Plus a breeding pair of Marsh Harriers ( only been breeding in Northumberland for 3 years ) Amble Harbour: Eider ducks with young in the harbour Cormorants, Gulls and Terns in estuary.
