I spent a few hours late morning/early afternoon today at Rutland Water.
I spent about 2 hours at the Savi's Warbler stakeout (between Buzzard and Crake Hides) and although the bird was singing quite close on/off (buzzing rather than reeling) inevitably, it seemed, from the base of the reeds. I only managed 2 short views of the bird in the 2 hours.
We birders were mainly balanced awkwardly up on a detached stretch of fencing leaning against another fence beyond which the Savi's Warbler was moving around a small reedbed, but hardly ever OVER the reeds. The bird certainly didn't seem to present any good photo opportunities during my stay.
Also seen - mainly from the nearby Buzzard Hide :
Osprey - two sightings above the Savi's Warbler stakeout Red Kite circling Black Tern Little Gull 40+ other Terns, virtually all Common as far as I could establish.
2 Sedge Warblers and 3 Reed Buntings in the reeds around the Savi's area, making life a little more difficult with their frequent moving around.
