Today with Chris Grimshaw, not large numbers but nice birds Pied Flycatcher (5) Redstart (5) Goldcrest Wheatear pair Meadow Pipit (20) Tree Pipit (3) Garden Warbler Willow Warbler Greater Spotted Woodpecker Song Thrush Pied Wagtail Sadly, no signs of Spotted Fly or Wood Warbler, but there is time yet Highlight of the day was getting stuck in a bog on the top of the hill!!! Although we didn't see and didn't hear one, there was one wood warbler seen today according to a photographer we bumped into He showed us photos of tawny owls which we couldn't find either We also heard a very distant cuckoo - probably stuck in the bog that we finished up in. A guy who spotted the gold crest tried to turn it into a firecrest - no way Apparently there was also a mandarin duck in the gorge and it has been in the location for a few days but we didn't see it |
