Chris Grimshaw and I went over to Rutland on Saturday 14th July.

After a good start at the feeders at the Bird watching Centre with good numbers of Great, Blue and Coal Tits, as well as House Sparrow, Chaffinch (10) and a Greater Spotted Woodpecker, we were both surprised to see 5 or 6 Jackdaws on the feeders as well.

Highlights of the day were
Temincks Stint
Green Sandpiper (7)
Common Sandpiper
Curlew (3)
Ringed Plover
Little Ringed Plover
Egyptian Geese (14)
Greenshank
Common Redshank
Ospreys (6) inc 2 young on the nest.
Cormorants (20)
Great Crested Grebe (100)
Chiffchaff (10) still all singing quite strongly
Huge numbers of Lapwing
Oystercatcher (20)
Little Egret (15)

Then coming home through Empingham, 3 Red Kite. 2 at a distance, and one fairly close.

Strange no Avocet were found

Andrew
