Weeting Heath Stone-curlew x 2 Blackcap x 2(m) Marsh Tit x 2 RSPB Lakenheath Fen Red-footed Falcon x 1(m) Hobby* Marsh Harrier* Buzzard x 1 Kestrel x 1 Common Crane x 1 Bittern x 1 (Heard only - Booming in reedbed) Cuckoo x 5 Bearded Tit x 1(m) Grasshopper Warbler x 1 Grass Snake x 1 Unfortunately didn't pick up the Golden Oriole or reported Savi's Warbler but still a thoroughly satisfactory day. Besides.. There is always next time! * Don't feel that I can give a valid count of these as they were so mobile around the reserve that I would likely be counting some birds two or even three times. Maximum number of each species that I had in one place at same time were Hobby x 7 and Marsh Harrier x 6. |

Hi Daniel, That's an impressive list!! I've just been looking at the recent sightings page for Lakenheath on the RSPB website, apparently there were a peak of 35 Hobby on the 29th April. Cheers, Richard |

Hi Richard, Yeah. It was a cracking day out, even if I did dip on the Golden Oriole and Savi's Warbler. The Red-footed Falcon was giving spectacular views and you couldn't look anywhere without seeing either a Hobby, Marsh Harrier or Cuckoo. Even the Grasshopper Warbler chose a conveniently prominent reed to reel away from! I've promised myself I will head down again before the summers out. Cheers, Daniel |

Had a pretty similar visit yesterday! Missed out on the red-foot, savi's, crane and oriole, but did get great views of marsh harriers (max. 7 at one time), hobby (5 in air) and male bearded tit (carrying beakfulls of food!). Cettis seemed to be all over the reserve, in at least 5 different areas. Also 1 muntjack deer seen, plus some interesting inverts too (need to upload pics and check ID) Weeting Heath - 4 stone curlew. Very distant, but great to see. 1 stoat |
