After looking for the reported Great White Egret at Besthorpe yesterday with no success I noted that BirdGuides was reporting it again late evening. That meant an early start again this morning. I checked the two pools on the way down to Besthorpe just in case the bird desired a change of scenery. Still no sign and it was the same when I reached the hide. Not even a little egret never mind a Great White. After about half an hour I decided to walk down towards the Trent and there it was. Hidden from the hide but out in the open. It showed for about 15 minutes when it was chased off to the east by a grey heron. Despite looking in that direction I couldn't relocate the bird. Also showing were 8 green sandpipers (1 yesterday) down by the screens and a greenshank on the Silt Lagoon. There had been 2 curlew here yesterday
