After work this morning I went to Graves park to see the common rosefinch. It's a pale thing! The parks canny big so advice is try to find some wher to park AFTER Charles ashmore road on the RHS of A61.There were still some redwing and fieldfare about on football fields and flocks of siskin and goldfinch.GSW at car park at end of C.Ashmore road.Treecreepers in your pockets!Similar to harstholme park but with good views of city and distant Peaks.
Back to chesterfield to Somersall;just of chatsworth road. The nipper river has weirs and dams here and a lad at work was right, the nipper has dippers!Nuthatchx3 and a kingfisher.
Homeward bound to Poolsbrook ponds outside of Staveley.Egyptians, canada, feral hooped necks GC grebes on main pond;gulls Bh,2 med, herring and LBB.Caspian gull has been reported here, but I wouldn't know it from adam.I hiked up the slag heap towards the famed tip, muddy, steep and slippery,no hand rails.Fine view back.Ouzel piping was too far east methinks but carried on,4 male with 3 female bullfinch were the reward at the top plantation to the right.
Work had started at the tip but within 100 gulls I saw 1st w iceland I'd come for!
Local population had risen by 10.30 so all the geese/swans flew toward me as I came down the hill missing head by yards.
