Had a few days away as a birthday treat, stayed at a lovely B&B on a farm near Llandeinolen. Arrived 4th July for four nights didn't really go to bird watch etc, really wanted to go up Snowden on the train but the best day was the day after I got there and that was my rest day after driving there, so missed out because the other days were heavy rain, wind or low cloud.
While I was at Blacktoft a few days before I went away I met a guy who had just returned from Anglesey and he recommended Cemlyn Bay, having never been I gave it a go on the Tuesday 7th, it was very warm and blowing a gale!
On the sightings board it said 2,500 pair Sandwich Tern + chicks, 50 pair of Arctic Tern + chicks and 60 pair Common Tern + chicks, Med Gull etc and at sea it said Manx Shearwater, Gannet, Kittiwake, Fulmar, Black Guillemot, Grey Seal and Porpoise.
Of the sightings I saw was quite a few Tern and 100s of Black-headed Gull mainly because a guy was walking at the back of where they was and each time he moved he put them up, I got a few pics/video of them up, quite spectacular. Also got Herring Gull, Whitethroat, Mallard, Oyk, Magpie. Stayed two hours without leaving the car except to be nearly blown over in the wind as I had a look where I could go, decided to go back to car and view from afar.
Then drove to South Stack. Parked at the visitor centre car park it was full, and the wind was blowing even more. Went into the centre looking for presents and outside took some pics and video of the sea etc, it had a damn good go at blowing me over again. Spotted Razorbill, GBB Gulls, Guillemots, Herring Gulls, Pied Wag and a Blackbird, stayed two hours.
Next went to Trearrdur Bay which is for me my fave spot on Anglesey, not for the birds but the place,as I made my way there kept stopping and taking pics and video. A lovely but tiring day doing 84 miles.
At the B&B no shortage of Swallows and House Martins nesting, enjoyed that, oddly never saw a Buzzard.
Will certainly go again to this B&B, if you like your breakfast on a very hot plate this is the place to go, don't ever remember another doing that, being a slow eater it was a bonus!
Kind regards
John
