Post subject:  Collingham 13.8.06..wood sands,spoonbills

Went to the new workings (takethe turn opposite the church)
3 birders viewing sojoined themin front of mound.Probably better staying at side of mound.
2 wood sand
3 green sand
1 common sand
2 common tern
1 snipe
2 ringed plover
1 merlin
1 dunlin
skuas reported at holme?so others left
I walked to the lake at back of besthorpe andwas joined by J.Ellis a Notts lister.He'd been looking for bar-tailed godwit,turnstones and grey plovers apparently had been with the wood sands.Notseen but a hobby appeared.

Went to Langford lowfields
whimbrel type curlew seen,very short bill,white underparts no head streaks,,flewand called ascurlew.
Saw a stint sized wader breifly,went to cover..1-0
Bar tailed godwit seen by John and that wentto cover 1..1!

Back and forth between lagoons and windbreaker,4 swifts ofnote.
On our way back to railway,we heard a raptor kew.John looked one way,I the other,John said **** and I said Spoonbills !!
2 flew over from our county(from @ Thurlby direction)
We got to the windbreak where they had landed but had no timeto Scope them..they wet their bills and were off.Towards the trent and Blacktoft?
First seen at 7.30pm gone by 7.40pm.
John said probable first multiple sighting for Notts.

I called intoGirton Pylon pond in hope,,,not seen.
