Had a couple of hours to kill in Doncaster today so decided to visit Potteric Carr. Both Dave and I got a shock at the changes. It's fifteen years since Dave went and about four since I last went.

Gone is the old car park, now there is a purpose built one. A multi million pound building has been put up called Sedum House, and the reserve rents a part of the building. This is used as an office cum shop with a good selection of books, feeders, cards and most things to do with birds and wildlife. Hot drinks are available and good clean toilets within the building. The staff are most friendly and knowledgeable.

During our visit we only scratched the surface of this excellent reserve. There are toilets on the reserve itself. Also plenty of hides to choose from with seating scattered about the reserve for those who need it, like me.

Although not yet finished a new area of 75 ha is being created which is a sight for sore eyes.

Both Dave and I can recommend a visit by our fellow forum members especially if they haven't been lately. And before anyone asks I am not being paid to say this

We stayed two hours, it could have been longer but I had to collect the car. Although it was windy and cold we enjoyed the visit.

This is what we saw:

Blackbird - 2
Bullfinch - 2
Reed Bunting - 6
Chaffinch - 14
Chiffchaff - 1
Coot - 8
Crow - 2
Ruddy Duck - 1

At the Willow Hide there is a feeding station that was crawling with birds, never seen Reed Buntings on a bird table or a feeder before.
