Not birds but hopefully interesting to some for future reference. Just spent a dampish week in the Highlands of Scotland but the weather was kind enough to allow sufficient sunny windows to see all the desired Northern specialities. Northern Damselfly - loads at Logierait Woods near Pitlochry and also at the new boardwalk for them at Loch Garten. Northern Emerald - 2+ at Bridge of Grudie. Azure Hawker - 1 at Glen Affric ( 5+ Downy Emerald also here ) Highland Darter - 3+ at Loch Bran ( 3+ Brilliant Emerald also here ) Midges - millions and still scratching! Phil |

Hi Phil, Going to do the same trip next year,going to Thompson Common in Norfolk on Sunday for Scarce-emerald Damselfly,weather and floods permitting,so iam keeping my fingers crossed. Regards Steve |

Visited Thompson Common with Dave Wright and Chris Atkin on Sunday,and found at least 10 Scarce-emerald Damselfly,8 Male and 2 Female and obtained some decent images,but they are a bit of a challenge to i.d. to the un-trained eye,but once you get your eye in as to speak, they where a lot easier. After visiting Thompson,we went on to Holt Lowes sssi,which is adjacent to the Holt Country Park,here we got excellant views of Keeled Skimmer's,with at least 35 individuals being seen,also here was a single Male Common Hawker,other non-dragon highlights here where,Slow Worm,Adder and Grass Snake.An excellant day-out,and even got the Black Kite at Nocton on the way home, Regards Steve |

Thanks for that Steve, I have visited these sites a couple of years ago and also I seem to remember Scarce Emeralds at Frost's Common? Also sites of interest in Norfolk are Buxton Heath off the B1149 at TG171214 for Silver Studded Blues and Keeled Skimmers and also Scarning Fen near East Dereham at TF982121 for Small Red Damselfly. Wellingtons essential after rain. Holt Lowes also has D.G Frit and White Admiral. Regards Phil |

Hi Roy, Thompson Common is just to the south of Watton,just north-east of Thetford,if you visit the Norfolk Dragons web-site it gives you full details of how to get to the reserve,and where to go when you get there. Regards Steve |
