Post subject:  Sherwood National Nature Reserve Lottery bid

As you may be aware, BIG Lottery are running a competition for £50m to be decided by popular vote. The winner will be announced on ITV in early December. 4 projects are through to the final. Sherwood National Nature Reserve is the only one from the East Midlands and is competing with The Eden Project, The Black Country and Sustrans (Sustainable Transport).

Many of you will know Sherwood National Nature Reserve, found just north of Edwinstowe. It is one of the finest areas of ancient wood pasture left in Britain with hundreds of veteran oaks and extensive heathland. If successful, the bid will pay for the removal of the existing visitor centre from the NNR, the building of a new visitor centre, 250km of new/upgraded paths radiating out from Sherwood to surrounding counties and 600 or so acres of new habitat in and around Sherwood. It is the only bid that will deliver significantly for wildlife in a region that historically has suffered the worst rates of wildlife decline of any region in Britain.

This is where you can make a difference. You can vote by phone or on-line. You do have to register before voting online however.
(After recent unfortunate events, voting will be scrutinised by independent observers.)

Thanks for taking the time to read this far and please consider voting. If you are really enthused by the idea, please pass the links on to people you know.

Many thanks

Nick
