Post subject:  North Yorkshire
A trip out today to North York's,primarily to look for Goshawk,had us getting excellant and prolonged views of at least 3 differant birds,with 2 chasing and sparring together,at one point,in the air together with a Peregrine!
Other bird species seen in the Wykeham/Troutsdale area where as follows:
2 Dipper
Grey Wagtail
50+ Siskin
3 Common Buzzard
the afore mentioned Peregrine
several Marsh Tit
Nuthatch
An excellant area,and well worth a visit.
Stopped at Scarboro' also,to see the superb Med Gull's at Holbeck,and today there was 4 Adult's and a 2nd winter,the adult's now with almost full summer heads,gorgeous bird's and probably our smartest gull.

Almost forgot,we also saw a pair of Mandarin Duck,on a small ox-bow lake at Hilla Green,which the local landowner,said breed every year there.
Had to include this sighting specially for Chris,as he has a liking for dodgy wildfowl.

Not quiet the north but on my travels to a meeting in the north of the fair county yesterday called in at Fairburn Ings.

2 Little Owls near the visitor centre

Green Sandpiper

Common Snipe

Long Eared Owl showing really well

plus the usual species

Male smew reported but didn't see it

Hello Hugh,

May pop in tomorrow on way back from Leeds. Would love to see the Little Owl!

Fairburn Ings may not be in the north of Yorkshire. But after reading the latest LBC newsletter today, under sightings, according to them Chapel Point and surrounding area is in north Lincs. I live in north Lincs and Chapel Point etc are a good fifty plus miles away. :?
