Made a trip over the river to my homeland today, to see the reported Black-bellied Dipper, and after an hour of searching the bird was located, feeding in the small stream it has chosen as it's temporary home.
It showed extremely well down to about 20 feet,a very smart little bird.
We then went on to Tophill Low,where we dipped on the Smew, but made recompense,by watching a superb Woodcock feeding along the hedge at the back of the feeding station,my first seen feeding like this, and great to appreciate the fantastic plumage characters of the species, also at the feeding station where 4 Brambling.
An excellant day.
Regards
Steve,with Dave Wright.
