We are having a few days on Mull late April- early May and would welcome advice as to sites to visit in order to make the most of our time there.
White-tailed Eagles and Otters are high on the agenda.
Will Corncrakes be back by then or is it a bit early?

Comments would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Roy.

Andrew Chick has forwarded the following information to me that was kindly provided by Tom Malarkey.
Thanks very much Tom, this is extremely helpful.

Roy.

Just back from a week on Mull today so I have some very current info on both eagles and otters:

Glen Aros (public road) for golden eagle and white-tailed eagle

Grasspoint for white-tailed eagle

Creag Mhor for golden eagle and peregrine

Loch Scridain for white-tailed eagle

Loch Beg for otter

Loch Tuath for otter

We were too early for corncrake but Iona is the place 28th April onwards. The RSPB trips to the Lettermore hide are well worth £4 of anybody's money - saw m amd f w-t eagle and golden eagle - birds showing for all but 15 mins of 2 hour visit.

Missed an osprey at my local patch (Kilvington in Notts) today but on balance I know where I'd rather have been.

Although it is from 2003 the trip report at the link below proved very useful:

Please ask Roy to call me on 07803 288101 for more detailed info.

Best regards

Roy,
My brother-in-law and I visited Mull in early June 2006 during a glorious sunny weather spell. We capitalised on the available time by booking a one-day (highly commendable) Island Birdwatching (etc) Tour by minibus with local expert naturalist Richard Atkinson @ £32 per head including lunch.
In this way we were able, with zero frustration, to be sure of seeing the main attractions - White-tailed Sea Eagle nesting,Golden Eagle,Peregrine,Raven,Hen Harrier,Divers,Otters,Seals, etc. in one memorable day c8 hour tour.

4 of us have just returned from Scotland inc 3 days on Mull,
visited most of the places mentioned on this page, saw the eagles etc and spent many hours alongside various lochsides and coastal areas supposedly
good for otters, never saw a sign and renamed them Notters, luck of the draw, but a very enjoyable experience, trees and bushes just coming into
leaf last tues, and very dry with no rain for 10 days, blackcaps and wood warblers just arrived. John.

Looks like you may need to take some spare fuel in a jerry can with you Roy
as the Grangemouth refinery is closing down for the strike at present. John.
