Decided to visit Lound today, the scene of some of my early birdwatching trips. It's safe to say that it has altered somewhat. Some of the original pits have been filled in and have crops growing in them - including the one that held a Bairds Sandpiper one memorable day several years ago (23rd August 1998)
The weather was nice and warm which I enjoyed for several hours highlights included
Willow Warbler (to many to count) Skylark 4 Shelduck (good numbers) Lapwing Mute Swan c50 Cormorant c12 Whitethroat (everywhere) Reed Bunting Sedge Warbler (about 6) Gadwall c30 Grey Heron 3 Little Ringed Plover 4 Common Tern 3 Blackcap Lesser Whitethroat 3 Kestrel 3 Nightingale 1 heard but not seen Chiffchaff about half a doen Redshank 2 Teal 1 Dunlin 1 Ringed Plover 1 Sand Martin c30 Goldeneye 1 female Swallow 1
Also saw a Buzzard near Drakeholes on my way - think that's in Notts too
