Called on way home from Leeds for a couple of hours. Quite a few cars in visitor centre car park. There are now tables, chairs and sun brollies outside the centre, with a notice saying hot and cold drinks, food and ices are available. On the sightings board BN Grebe had been there a day or so before. While at the hide nearest centre I've never seen so many dragons this year at one place. Suffice to say they were too far from me to give a positive ID. Although on the paths I did see some Brown Hawkers and a possible Southern Hawker. Also 5 Common Sand. Also saw my first Willow Tit this year, it was the closest view I've had of one for while. Loads of L.White, S.White and GV White, along with Gatekeeper, Speckled Wood, Peacock, Comma and Meadow Brown. Had intended going to Linn Dyke hide, but was told it wasn't worth it, so didn't bother. Instead of coming home via Castleford [M62] I found out it was possible to come back on the old A1 road as far as Ferrybridge then on to M62. One thing the RSPB seem to have got right is plenty of seating for people to rest if needed, some are wooden benches and others made of other materials. If they can do it why can't others. I keep harping on about such places as Crowle Moor, which the last time I visited had NO SEATING whatsoever. Regards John |
