I decided to check on the reported Waxwing stake-out at Edwinstowe, NOTTS today (Sat).
I found :
c40 Waxwings feeding on rowan berries on Manvers Crescent late morning. Usual close approach possible.
c1.00pm, I visited Rufford Abbey (only 2 miles from Edwinstowe) and was pleased to find :
Hawfinch - 1 or 2 still around the Car Park perched high in tall trees giving good views (9 had been reported much earlier in the day.)
plus incl.
Great-spotted Woodpecker
Redwing
Mistle Thrush
Goldfinch
Greenfinch.

Regards,

Freddy

Freddy
I was also at Rufford Abbey CP on Saturday afternoon with family but didn't know about the hawfinches so was not really searching for them. Didn't see anyone else with binoculars for that matter!
Lots of marsh tits about and cracking view of water rail on the main lake.
Cheers
Brian

Up to 13 showing this morning. You want to be early though before the dog walkers appear en masse
