The Lincolnshire Bird Club

A group of 5 Lincs birders inc myself has recently returned from 15 nights stay in the central rift valley and highlands staying in the Mt Kenya area,
Samburu and Buffalo Springs parks, Naru Moro, Lake Baringo,
Nakuru national park, Crater Lake and Naivasha Lake, and our final day in Nairobi national park.
We saw between us 431 bird species and a wide range of animals including close encounters with lion, giraffe ( all 3 species) black and white rhino, elephant, cheetah, buffalo, and many antelope species.
We arranged our trip and iteneray with Joseph Mwangi the owner and guide of natureswonderlandsafaris.com He is a young Kenyan with a awesome abilty to spot birds and animals as well as a complete knowledge of the birds of Kenya and it was due to his skill that we saw so much.
We travelled in a 4x4 9 seat mini bus with large photograpic opening
roof hatch as 2 of the group are keen photgraphers, and stayed in some wonderful locations and most nights in very plus accomadation.
Joseph and his company was recommended to me by John Clarkson and Andy Sims and i and our group fully endorse their views.
We did not experience any serious problems and having a Kenyan guide and driver was a great advantage as we learnt much about Kenya and its wildlife, and habitats. Nairobi national park is worthy of a several days visit its self with a wide range of animals and over 450 bird species recorded and is only a few miles from the international airport, and has some good hotels and a lodge close by.In all a lifetime experience. cheers John.

Some wonderful photographs John - brought back some good memories. I went around western Kenya, Rift Valley lakes and the Mara, for two weeks in 1990 and we recorded 603 species, and then went to the Kenyan coast with my wife a few years later and added another 100+ species. (there aren't many countries that one can accumulate a personal 'list' of over 700 birds in around three weeks) We also saw over 60 species of mammals including cracking close views of Leopard and Hunting Dog).
I only wish that Digital SLRs were around then!

I returned from Kenya just over a week ago. I didn't do the specialised birding safari but a family holiday with First choice to the Sun 'n' Sand Hotel at Kikambala which is on the beach just North of Mombassa. There were plenty of birds on the beach at low tide such as Dimorphic and Great White Egret, Sacred Ibis, Woolly-necked and African Open-billed Stork.

I went on a three day safari to Tsavo East and West National Park where we saw all the usual mammals such as African Elephant, Zebra, Giraffe, Lion, Leopard and Buffalo as well as plenty of birds.

I visited Mida Creek which is a fantastic place north of the hotel travelling by taxi. I was pleased to see the Crab Plover which is a site speciality as well as amongst others Greater and Lesser Flamingo and Greater Sandplover.

I would recommend Kenya to anyone like myself with a family who tend to go on packaged holidays as my family who don't take a second look at birds or wildlife in the UK were enthralled by the wildlife in Kenya and there are always plenty of birds around for the birder.

me and my wife whent to kenya last year for three weeks with a escort we had our own driver for all the time we was there what a hols we see every thing the 4x4 was good to .we whent to serangete bush walking for three nights getting up in the morning to see all the birds and wildlife was a hoils of a life time got about six hundred photos . we going back in sept next year for two months . see what you others did we did last year hope you injoyed as much as we did .
