4 birders including myself have spent a week in Tunisia , 4 days in the Hammamet area and 3 days in the desert area. some superb birding
species seen included desert, hoopoe, shot toed , thekla , crested,
larks. mourning, red rumped, black, white crowned, black eared, wheatears, 17 species of birds of prey, with some very good close views.
and some awesome numbers of waders , c 25000 on a 300 hectare lagoon on the coast, including c1000 avocets , c5000 little stints, and similar number of black winged stilts, c1000 flamingos, other species
marsh sandpiper, ruff, spotted redshank, greenshank, kentish and little ringed plovers, spoonbill, collared prantincole, slender billed gull.
A marsh area on Cap Bon held swamphen, white headed duck, ferruginous duck, purple heron, great white egret, cattle egret,
savi,s warbler, cetti,s etc,. The hotels were very good as was the food.
we hired a renault clio saloon which had a large boot which easily accomodated our gear, was almost new and returned 60 kms per gallon.
