Just returned from Greece. Limited birding but lots of buzzards over the mountains seen daily. The main highlight was the evening serenade of two Scops Owls (they sound like submarine sonars!!), they were heard but proved elusive, not able to photograph but made us smile a lot!!!
Other wildlife fantastic, snakes, glass lizards, and an array of crickets, locusts, bugs, spiders etc, very obliging too when photographed!

It is going to take days to catch up on all the postings of the last two weeks!!

Mandy and Mick

Hi Mandy

There are some good photos on your blog (a word I didn't think I would ever use!)

It is about 15 years since I went to Ithica on a one day trip from Levkas (of which I do have fond memories. Perhaps you could give a clue as to what the birdlife is like there. I don't recall

I remember going to Paros in the Aegean some years ago for a holiday and saw 26 birds in two weeks which was frustrating and wonder if Ithica is the same.

regards

Hi Chris

The birdlife is reasonable but for best views you need to head up into the mountains, we go every year and always hire a scooter so we can go off exploring every day.We always go in May when theres next to no traffic and no tourists and nothing much to distrurb the wildlife. There are quite a lot of buzzards, kestrels, red footed falcons. Scops Owls. Little owls. etc. As there doesnt appear to be a vast array of birds we tend to concentrate on insects, lizards snakes and butterflies, as you will have seen on our blog (i hate that word!!), the are prolific and very beautiful. We werent successful in getting any bird photos as we dont yet have the equipment or knowledge as yet (we are working on it!) to photo at distance.
