When nearly all the news from Iraq is of war it's encouraging to hear of this development.

A favourite explrer of mine was Wilfred Thesiger.Arabian Sands and The Marsh Arabs are fantastic reads.I think he refers to Iraq in the Marsh Arabs. He describes floating towns made of bound reeds 30ft high with cattle etc penned in on rafts.Aparrently the marsh was like a sea with vast birdlife.Imay be wrong but,S Hussein early in his reign ,could not control the tribes within the marshes and was thereby threatened by them. What does he do?Digs a vast drain/sump 10miles by 30 miles across effectively draining the marshes of all life. You can see this via satellite.Anyone able to confirm this?
