Katherine, Have you got any plumage description of the "Brown Jays" plus flight characteristics and habitat? Regards, Freddy |

Brown Jay (Cyanocorax morio) is a Central and South American species, it does not occurr in France. The only Jay in France is the Eurasian Jay (Garrulus glandarius), the same species as in England. |

Katherine, The "Brown Jays" will have to become 'Discussion Birds' without a photograph. As I suggested in my recent post, we could narrow the field of possibilities if your parents could provide any details on plumage, flight characteristics and habitat. If they can, we'll have an interesting ID to resolve. Regards, Freddy |

Doesn't help matters with them being birding 'dudes' who will go birdwatching but only if it's 25 degrees and sunny with no wind....... |

In the photo of the Brown Jay on the shortcut you provided Katherine the bird looks a bit like a Magpie. If your parents are basing the identification of the birds they saw on this photo alone I suggest this is what you parents saw in France. |
