The Lincolnshire Bird Club

I guess the real question is, which bird is iconic to Lincolnshire? The only answer I can see is that of the Peregrine Falcon.

I don't regard the Peregrine as the most iconic bird for Lincolnshire. True it may breed on some of the most iconic buildings in the county, and it is increasing more rapidly in Lincolnshire than any other county. However, a unexpected decline in the next few years for whatever reason, would make its choice as a county logo in need of subsequent change again.

If I were to pick a species, I would suggest the Barn Owl, as Lincolnshire now has more breeding pairs than any other county. However the Heron motif has been associated with the Bird Club since it's formation and I, for one, would not wish it to be changed.

If we are going to change, my suggestion would be an artistic drawing of the Avocet, with the graceful lines and upturned bill,

I agree that an image of the Avocet would make a stunningly evocative logo but I'm afraid the RSPB got there first, many years ago, so we may give the impression that we are a part of that organisation.

I agree with Graham about the logo, but we also need to bear in mind that it would be unwise to use a species that is already in use by another club. Hence Barn Owl and many others would be out of the equation. While i don't particularly like the Grey Heron as a logo species, at least no one else has it (as far as i know). I think a slight revamp would be good, although maybe its better to wait for a significant anniversary to do something like this.
