Birding Gib Point

Gibraltar Point is one of Lincolnshire’s premier birding sites.

Gibraltar Point struggle to record birds adequately in the census area and would welcome more counts or estimates of common birds from regular visitors. People probably assume that someone records the Gib Point census area on a daily basis or even weekly - this is not the case. They would be very pleased to hear from anyone who would be able to help with counting on a regular basis, breeding bird surveys, seawatching, visible migration recording etc

If you visiting the site please consider printing off the recording form and submitting the completed data to the site office when you leave,

A few years ago I suggested to Kev that a bird log would be useful in one of the hides, probably Jackson's Marsh would be best, but nothing was done about it as far as I know.

Thanks to those who have already responded positively to this request.

We did trial a log in the Mere Hide for a short while before it got burnt! It did generate a few records and worth trying again so thanks Geoff for the reminder.

My first visit for quite a while, so it was good to see a logbook in the Jacksons Marsh hide. It appears to have been well used already. I would have wrote in it but didn't have a pen with me.
One suggestion if I may, could the log be kept in a biscuit tin or something as it was getting damp and could get blown away when doors or windows are open, also a pen would likely stay if kept in there, (One of the hides at Manby Flashes has had a log in a biscuit tin for several years and it's as good as new). I may have one back home in the Midlands if you haven't got one.

The log book is lasting well so far. We will get a tin for it ............don't expect any biscuits though!

You have to help on the data project for that !

Now for another suggestion, when I'm sitting in the cafe eating the home made cake it would be good to look out at a small wader scrape where the bird feeders are. I've mentioned this to you before and you said as it's an SSSI it would be difficult to get it passed. It would only need the grass cutting or scrapped off, any chance?
