LEAF (Linking Environment with Agriculture) have organised a national count on their affiliated farms between 1st - 7th. February. The sole stipulation is that only the maximum number of birds seen at the same time in a 30 minute period are to be recorded. I did the survey this morning at Stainton le Vale in a variety of habitats within a 2 mile radius of TF175944 and was pleasantly surprised by the number and diversity of species:
Blackbird 4, Blue Tit 4, Buzzard 1, Carrion Crow 2, Chaffinch 18, Coal Tit 2, Collared Dove 5, Common Gull 102, Coot 4, Dunnock 1, Fieldfare 110, Goldfinch 14, Great Tit 1, Greenfinch 30, Greylag Goose 6, Grey Partridge 7, House Sparrow 12, Jackdaw 24, Kestrel 1, Lapwing 74, Little Grebe 2, Magpie 3, Mallard 2, Mistle Thrush 5, Pheasant 7, Red-legged Partridge 9, Robin 1, Rook 12, Skylark 2, Starling 35, Stock Dove 2, Tree Sparrow 30, Tufted Duck 3, Woodpigeon 62 and Wren 1.
