I'm sad to have to announce that at our committee meeting on Tuesday night, Rob Carr our Hon. Sec. resigned his post. He is departing the county and returning to his native Kent in a matter of weeks. The committee thanked him for the calm and efficient service he has provided and wished him luck with his move. On a personal note I first met Rob while birding at Witham mouth in 1986. He had just moved to Lincs from Kent and like myself was a keen student of bird species richness and keen to extend his acquaintance with the subject. I've subsequently spent many hours in Rob's company in Lincolnshire, all over the UK and foreign parts, especially his beloved Lot et Garonne. He has been a great birding companion and I'm sure he will continue to be. No doubt he will be seen again in Lincs when the next big one turns up.
In the meantime this leaves us in need of a replacement and the committee is seeking a volunteer to step into Rob's shoes. If we have more than one keen contender we will co-opt one individual to carry out the role until the AGM next March and have an election on that night. Our next meeting is 28th November so it would be good to have some one in place by 20th October.
The duties involve attending and taking minutes at the AGM and three committee meetings a year in Horncastle, usually a Tuesday night at 7.30 pm in February, July and November . The meetings rarely last longer than two hours. You would also be responsible for circulating the agenda and meeting notes, by liaison with myself as Chair and John Watt as Treasurer and also booking rooms for meetings. You can become more involved in the activities of the committee to the extent you wish but if you prefer the duties can be kept to those listed above.
