Following a chance meeting with Dominic Mitchell of Birdguides on a birding trip in June, I gave him my copy of the LBC Report. I heard nothing after but the review has appeared recently: https://www.birdguides.com/reviews/linc ... tter081117

It is generally positive!

The reviewer makes a valid point about the absence of an introductory overview which could include total number of species recorded and major rarities observed during the year.

Of course, this would involve an extra task for Andrew Henderson and the LBC editorial team. The additional content would probably also put up the cost of production and printing.

Incidentally, Andrew has helpfully provided an update on progress on our next (2016) report as outlined below.

Richard Jackson has proved a valued newcomer to the species writing panel, and. happily, John Badley has also been "reclaimed". But additional volunteers for individual species write-ups would be very welcome.

Phil Hyde has been doing excellent work, backed up by other LBRC people, in advancing the state of decisions on Lincolnshire rare species.

Already submitted are articles on:

* Barn owls into Lincolnshire churches

* Birds in Deeping Fen

* Finders’ reports for Eastern Black Redstart and Western Bonelli’s Warbler

Those articles need varying amounts of work to get them into final form.

Other elements of the report (e.g. ringing report, introduction) have received no attention but they are normally done towards the end of the process anyway.

In parallel with production of the report, Phil H and Andrew, with technical support from Colin Casey, have been developing entries for an online summary of the status of species. To begin with we are concentrating on rare/scarce ones but hope that commoner species will follow in due course.

More help always needed with the report....

A final call for photographs for use in the 2016 report has also gone out this week... please send any for consideration to info@lincsbirdclub.co.uk (include species, date,location).
