Post subject:  Advance notice of works at RSPB Freiston Shore

Hi

Firstly, apologies for the vague nature of this message.

As those of you who have visited Freiston Shore may know, there is a culvert with two sluices connecting the lagoon to the realignment. This culvert is in a bad state at the moment, and we are currently looking at replacement options. It is highly likely that the Environment Agency will be decommisioning the existing culvert in the late summer/early autumn. We are aiming for a start time of mid-July, finishing in late September, but this is subject to change.

So, there is likely to be disturbance to the reserve in the coming months, centred around that culvert. We will have to close the footpath to the hide for short periods while heavy plant is installed on site. I will try to post on here in good time to give people warning of the closures, although the other paths around the reserve will remain open. Disturbance to birds on the lagoon should not be too excessive, but we will keep a close watch on things.

Please don't let this put you off coming to Freiston in the future, but best to look on here for anouncements and follow any on-site instructions.

Thanks,

Paul.

The replacement of the sluice detailed above has now been approved, and work will begin on site on August 3rd, lasting for approximately 12 weeks.

Please look out for notices on site and on here, and be aware that machinery will be using the main footpath at Freiston Shore for short periods. We will try to keep disturbance to a minimum, and most of the reserve will be unaffected.

Please see map in the album to illustrate this - http://www.lincsbirds.co.uk/album/displ ... um=8&pos=0.

If you have any questions, post them on here or e-mail me directly and i'll do my best to answer them.

PF.
