Every evening approx. 1 hour before sunset, I've noticed that all gulls flying above my garden fly in a roughly south-east direction, at a speed slightly faster than at other times of day.

They're almost certainly flying off to roost for the night, but where are they flying to? Where precisely is my 'local' gull roost?

The Wash. Trouble is they roost too far out to see, and tend to gather in pre-roost on the sand/mud banks off Holbeach which is too far from anywhere to see. Some pre-roost in front of Cut End, but you need to time it right with tides, and at the moment its almost all Common Gulls with a few terns mixed in. Gulls are really hard work around here. Still yet to find a Glauc or Iceland here, not for lack of trying.

One less than me - along with the Glaucs and Icelands, I'm still trying to find my first Med Gull! As I understand it, I'm looking for something slightly larger than a B-H Gull and no black feather tips...

Summer plumage yes, however no Black wing tips might be starting to become hard to find:

e.g. Have a look at this fine image link:
