Wild about Lincolnshire aims to become an annual free public event to celebrate the wonderful wildlife that the historic county of Lincolnshire has to offer. Wild about Lincolnshire will engage and enthuse local people about the wildlife on their doorstep, with a strong family focus there will be a large variety of informative and interactive displays, activities and games. To promote the amazing variety of wildlife in Lincolnshire a large number of exhibitors from as many organisations as possible are invited to attend.
The aims of Wild about Lincolnshire are;
To encourage, enthuse, inform and involve the general public in an interest in the wildlife of Lincolnshire – particularly with children in mind
To gather together environmental and wildlife charities, organisations and groups, all working together in the cause of wildlife conservation, with the underlying idea of giving them more opportunities to learn about and understand each other's work
To keep the event free to the general public and, if at all possible, also to charity exhibitors
These aims agree with the environmental objectives and can help to deliver local area agreements and community strategies of many governmental and non-governmental organisations with an environmental mandate.
Our first event will be on Sunday 25 October 2009 at Baytree Garden Centre. It will run from 10am until 4pm. The location may vary between years, but our desire is to bring wildlife to people, one of the reasons Baytree was chosen is because it is close to Spalding.
The modest costs of running the event will largely be generated through voluntary contributions from the event partners and sales exhibitor fees. This year we are very grateful to ‘Grassroots', The Environment Agency, The Wash Estuary Strategy Group, Lincolnshire Biodiversity Partnership and The RSPB for grants towards the costs of the event.
