There seems to be an unusually large number of Wheatears along the East coast this Spring.
Someone counted 51 this morning at Burnham Overy in Norfolk. A person I met at Tetney today said that he saw about 40 Wheatears there on Sunday, I saw a group of 8 there today and then 8 more on the Wolds at Bigby Top this afternoon and many others have been reported from various parts of the county.
I wonder if these are displaced continental birds rather than ones that had the UK as their destination when they started migration?

Going by the prescence of the incessant easterly wind direction,i personally would say that the large numbers of this species this spring are due to displaced birds heading north on the continent and have been blown across the North Sea,this would also account for the White-spotted Bluethroats that have turned up.
