On the Lincs Bird Reports section Phil Hyde raised the question of how common a breeder is Tawny Owl given that there are several pairs in Boston. So far in this Atlas they have been confirmed in 10 squares of 19. Thanks have to go to Lincs ringers who submit their ringing records of nestlings in their owl box schemes. Their status in the other 9 squares is as follows Possible breeding 2: 48,55 No records 7: 56,27,57,25,35,45,44 In 1990 they were confirmed in 11 squares and probable in 3. I anticipate with more recording they will be found in some of the 7 listed above. I was proposing to wait until February and then try and get some coverage of territorial birds twit twooing but if anyone comes across any Tawny Owl in any square above please submit it through roving records as an H. Better still if you see recently fledged young FL. |
