I see in septembers birdwatching, theres a articale nr the front on honey buzzards and it says i quote"among european raptors the most frequently mis-identified,over claimed birds on the british list"unquote,Ive been saying this on here and elsewhere for years, even i !!yes even I!!!got it wrong at msq in late sept a few years back,,i now believe it was common, but light against the sun threw up blue wings ,i was convinced on colour alone, could not get any other detail, angsent the sun.over excitement got to me cos paul hudson had one that day,
the numbers claimed in yorkshire and at blacktoft in recent years is over the top,i frequently sat on whitton top over several septembers and other good possible passage points and failed to see one!!!yet i have seen high flying direct flying common buzzards which being high were difficult at times due to light conditions etc but they all turned out after careful examination to be common buteo.
Honey Buzzard is a rare breeder.
yer gotta be careful out there,
Roger.

talking to yourself is actually quite normal and is seen as beneficial to general mental health or so I read somewhere -- or did I say it?

ND is your best mate! I take it that remark was tongue-in-cheek, if not you have a very short memory
